Presentation Description: In December of 2022, 10 of the leading corporate clean energy buyers and investors, led by Amazon, Meta, Salesforce and Hannon Armstrong, launched the "Emissions First Partnership" (www.emissionsfirst.com). This Partnership is focused on accelerating the world's path to decarbonization through a renewed focus on reducing the total tons of carbon emitted, not on MWh-matching of clean energy. This talk will focus on how audience members can operationalize these theoretical Emissions First Principals in the day-to-day activities of clean energy development, contracting, and operations.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, participants will be able to articulate the differences and similarities between the principles and goals that define the "Emissions First" and "MWh Matching" decarbonization strategies.
Upon completion, participants will understand how current carbon accounting requirements do and don't align with the Emissions First Principals, and how carbon accounting requirements may be changing in the near future.
Upon completion, participants will have an understanding of how they can operationalize Emissions First Principals into their own day-to-day activities, including greenfield siting, offtake contracting, storage dispatch operations, and carbon impact reporting.
