Patrick J. McCormick III is Minority Special Counsel to the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources of the United States Senate. McCormick previously served as Chief Counsel (2015-2018), Republican Chief Counsel (2013-2015) and Republican Special Counsel (2011-2013) to the Committee. Prior to re-joining the committee staff at the invitation of the Chairman in 2020, McCormick served as Vice President, Regulatory for Bloom Energy Corporation, an NYSE-listed manufacturer of fuel cells, reporting to the company’s Chief Executive Officer. Prior to joining the Committee Staff in 2011, McCormick was a partner and the leader of the Regulated Markets and Energy Infrastructure Practice in the Washington Office of Hunton & Williams LLP (now Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP). McCormick provides counsel to the minority on matters within the Committee’s jurisdiction.
McCormick’s private sector experience focused on representing energy companies and advising executives on matters pertaining to energy regulation and infrastructure development. Prior to joining Hunton and Williams in 2005, McCormick was the Managing Partner for the Washington Office of Balch & Bingham LLP. Earlier in his career he served as Deputy Assistant General Counsel for Electric Rates and Corporate Regulation with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and in positions of increasing responsibility in the law and governmental affairs departments of Potomac Electric Power Company. McCormick is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and Maryland. He has been listed in Chambers USA and Best Lawyers in America.
