Senator Mary Landrieu started her career in public service in 1979, when she was elected to the Louisiana State Legislature. In 1987, she was elected State Treasurer, and served with distinction for two terms. She was elected to the United States Senate in fall of 1996, was the first women from Louisiana elected to serve a full term in the US Senate. As a member of the Armed Services Committee, the Appropriations Committee, Chairwoman of the Small Business Committee, and Chairwoman of the Energy and Natural Resources Committee, she was known as a tireless advocate for her home state.
Ms. Landrieu is now a Senior Policy Advisor for Van Ness Feldman, located in Washington, DC. She serves on several corporate and non-profit boards, including CenturyLink, Inc., The National Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Association, the National Association of Public Charter Schools (NAPCS), and the United States Energy Security Council (USESC).
