Presentation Description: A 2024 revision to the International Building Code (IBC) would require more robust design standards for solar energy facilities. The proposed change from the International Code Council (ICC) would elevate design standards for solar facilities from Risk Category 1 to Category 2 in an attempt to increase their ability to minimize damage from hurricanes, tornadoes and other extreme weather events. This presentation will review what the changes mean, how they will be imposed, waivers available, cost impact and when these changes are expected to come.
Learning Objectives:
What do the IBC codes mean for solar facilities and how will they be imposed?
Why are the codes changing and when will they come?
